ABOUT THE STUDY

The purpose of this research study is to learn more about the safety and effectiveness of a new experimental drug, SM04690 (the “study drug”). An experimental drug is a drug that has not been approved by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) but is allowed to be administered to people for research purposes.

The study drug SM04690 influences the Wnt pathway. The Wnt pathway is a network of switches in the body that helps determine what cells become and it regulates both cell and organ function.

You are invited to participate in this study because you are an adult, aged 40 to 80 years, with osteoarthritis (OA) (a type of arthritis that occurs when protective cartilage at the ends of bones wears down) affecting one or both of your knees.
In particular, this study will try to find out the safety and effectiveness of SM04690 (0.07 mg SM04690 per 2 mL injection) given via a single intra-articular (into the knee joint) injection into the target knee of subjects with OA.
